Call of the Selkie
Over the years I have taught many different kinds of workshops for healers. I have always tried to work in a more traditional way, only working with small groups and occasionally on a one-to-one basis. As an informal educator, I believe this enables me to give more attention to participants and that this creates a better learning environment. I also struggle with the gross commercialisation of spiritualism and cultural appropriation. Core shamanism is stripped of all cultural identity and lacks power. That is why I have always tried to include Scottish folk magic, stories and customs into whatever I teach. I will be adding more workshops soon, so watch this space.
This workshop is dedicated to working with Mugwort (Artemisia Vulgaris). In Scots this plant was known as Muggins. An ancient aromatic herb of healing, magic and divination. Associated with the moon and said to be a healer of women during their maiden, mother and crone life passages. One of our most magical native plants. A powerful enhancer that can aid lucid dreaming and divination. Said to be worn by St John the Baptist to ward of evil in the wilderness and still held in esteem by pagans as a psychic protection amulet. It has a long history of ceremonial use at Midsummer. Used to flavour ale and wine and as a tobacco. Not to mention its numerous medicinal uses. Is it any wonder this that plant is often referred to as 'the mother of herbs'. During the workshop, you will experience this mother plant as tea, tincture, smoke and as spirit, so you can learn how to work more intuitively with its magic. We will also work with it ritually to help you build a deeper relationship with this great teacher plant and will explore the elements below.
- Folk Lore
- Medicinal Use
- Herbal Preparations
- Ceremonial Use
- Dream Enhancement
- Spirit Helper
Notes will be given at the start of workshop and everyone will get to take away a Mugwort tincture, smudge stick and dream totem.

Along with old incantations, plus water, earth and fire magic. We will also look at how to use a Gruagach (offering stone) and the use of protection amulets. The ancient uses of crystals and how to prepare a crystal tincture. You will also learn how to work more intuitively as a healer with the human body. The workshop will cover the elements below.

"The course was inspiring and relaxed. Rowan is an amazing teacher who brings experience to her teaching to make things real. She is passionate about her craft, which is very contagious and has made me more aware of my own abilities. I am looking forward to taking more courses with her, as I feel more confident and have released lots". (Melanie Bridges)
